The price of unga is likely rise next year because the country’s annual maize production may drop by 20-25 per cent this year due to the invasion and the continuing spread of the fall armyworm Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett says that this, alongside erratic rainfall, have the government worried about the country's food security. Pesticides are being used to try and contain the insect pests but some have been failing, while some are too costly for farmers. Bett says that the Ministry has approved at least nine chemicals, as he received more, worth 10 million shillings, from Bayer East Africa.
