After anaesthesia and surgery, the hamster is awake after his abscesses had been lanced and drained. 11 minutes of isoflurane gas anaesthesia were used. This video shows that the vet must be meticulous in ensuring that all 3 facial abscesses must be lanced and drained. The overgrown lower incisors were clipped. The hamster is back to normal now as at April 2, 2014. This case required 3 veterinary visits as the abscesses were just developing in the previous 2 visits and so could not be lanced since they were rock hard. Only in this 3rd visit were the abscesses soft and drained. The owners must be educated on the abscess development necessitating 3 visits to 3 vets. The last vet (myself) was at the right time to produce the successful outcome as the abscesses were ripe and soft enough to incise and drain. .
