Seems that 4 GB is nearly enough for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and it leaves very little free memory to run Apps.  Now you can cheaply upgrade to 8GB and the difference of free memory available is noticeably large as you can see at the end of this video.

I upgraded with two Kingston 4GB KVR 1333D3S9 SoDimm memory sticks and so far they seem to work perfectly!
