Blessing of the Fleet in Mississippi Celebrates Start of Shrimp Season

Biloxi celebrated the start of the 2011 shrimp season with the 82nd annual "Blessing of the Fleet" ceremony led by Father Gregory Barras, pastor of St. Michael's Catholic Church in East Biloxi. The ceremony celebrated the fishing industry that established Biloxi and marked the official beginning of shrimp season. BP provided a $10,000 sponsorship for the four-day event which included a memorial, coronation of the Shrimp King and Queen, and a street party.
