Costa Mesa City Council debate at the Feet to the Fire forum at the Robert B. Moore Theatre at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California on Thursday, September 18, 2014. Starts with Mayor Jim Righeimer defending his controversial restrictive public speaking policy at City Council meetings. Daily Pilot City Editor Alicia Lopez asks challenger Tony Capiteli about perceptions that people are not being heard during open forum. At 2:33, the audience erupts to thunderous applause after Chris Bunyan (another candidate in white shirt sitting to Righeimer's left) said that Righeimer and the council majority's texting during meetings, "trash talk" toward speakers and not accepting criticism would get them fired from a job at In-N-Out Burger (I didn't record Bunyan's comments). At 4:02, candidate Jay Humphrey brings up Costa Mesa's budget, Righeimer responds. At 5:40, Daily Pilot columnist Barbara Venezia brings up the issue of rehabilitation homes. Bunyan and Humphrey debate Righeimer on that issue. At 9:19, Daily Pilot Editor John Canalis brings up allegations to Righeimer that Costa Mesa police staffing has been cut under his watch. At 14:55, Canalis asks Righeimer if he has given any thought to dropping his lawsuit against the police union and the law firm representing that union. Finally at 19:48, Lopez asks Righeimer why does he take such a strong stance against unions in general and asks him if that is supposed to be a springboard for higher officer after his run on the Costa Mesa City Council ends.
