Feb 19, 2014. Not every large tumour in the older dwarf hamster can be removed by surgery. In this hamster, the backside tumour is nodular and deep inside the hip muscles, after 3 days of treatment confirming that it is not an abscess. The owner accepts advice not to operate as it is aged at around 2 years of age. The hamster no longer drags his left hind limb due to treatment, but this is temporary. Feel your hamster's body daily for small lumps as early removal prevents spread of cells into the muscles for some types of subcutaneous tumours. Consult your vet early.
