On December 10th, 2015, the controversial newly purchased metal shredder owned by Winnipeg company Industrial Metals went up in flames. According to employees it was completely destroyed. Employees also told us that they considered this karma. According to these employees, they'd lost their Christmas holidays due to the purchase. Environmental groups have been speaking out against the metal shredder due to apparent health problems it can cause to those living in the nearby neighborhoods in St. Boniface. A harsh chemical smell could be noticed in the air around Archibald.
