A 3D view of the leading endothelial cell (tip cell) in a developing blood vessel (isolectionB4-labelled, green). This particular cell possesses numerous thin projections called 'filopodia'. These filopodia are rich in actin filaments (phalloidin-labelled, red). Filopodia explore extracellular cues and are important for the migration of endothelial cells during the formation of new blood vessels, a process known as angiogenesis. Scale: 49.2X49.2X15 um.
