Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! I'm Bill Jelen and today we're tackling a problem sent in by Shanna. It's one of those issues that may seem simple at first, but the solution is actually quite interesting and has potential for other uses. Shanna noticed that when she entered the number 150 into a cell, it automatically changed to 1.5. At first, I thought it might be a formatting issue, but after checking the cell format and finding no solution, I knew there had to be something else going on.

After some investigation, I discovered that there is a setting in Excel options that can affect this behavior on a specific worksheet. Under the Advanced tab, there is an option to automatically insert a decimal point two places. This can be a useful feature if you have a lot of data to enter and don't want to have to manually add the decimal point every time. However, in Shanna's case, this setting had accidentally been turned on, causing frustration and incorrect data entry.

Once Shanna found and corrected this setting, everything went back to normal and data entry became much smoother. This is just one example of how knowing your way around Excel options can save you time and headaches. So, next time you encounter a strange behavior in Excel, be sure to check your options to see if there's a simple solution.
