Complications due to diabetes can be prevented or it can be definitely delayed. The commonest complications is micro vascular complications, i.e involving the eye that is called retinopathy, involving the nerves which is called as neuropathy and involving the kidneys which is called as nephropathy.. The macro vascular complications is heart attack or coronary artery disease or strokes involving the brain or longer vessels of the limbs which is called as peripheral artery disease which causes gangrene and patients have to undergo amputations. If you have a good control especially in the early part of diagnosis and if you maintain control for a couple of years and even if control is lost, still you have a benefit which is called as the legacy effect with the good control that you initially had. This can prevent complications.. Let us say you already developed complications after five or ten years of diabetes, with proper control you can definitely retard the progress of these complications..
