Hospitality industry players at the coast are calling on the government to upgrade the road network linking Watamu to Malindi as well as fast track the expansion of the Malindi international airport  to boost tourist numbers in the region. As the tourism peak season in the region kicks in, hundreds of tourists are arriving in the resort town and most hotels are recording 80 percent occupancy rate.
