What does a Two time Academy Award WInner and cultural icon have to do with a talented Aussie pop male vocalist from the 1960's and 1970's?

I have the privilege to serve two aims at once, in honouring the late great beauty, actress and humanitarian who passed away in March 2011, and sharing a rare mid seventies track from the one time golden boy of Aus rock.

Normie Rowe racked up multiple hits in the mid 60's before being drafted for service in Vietnam. I discovered this pop gem 'Elisabeth' from the K-Tel compile '"Super Sounds" in early 1976, and was delighted by it on first listen. The 'Elisabeth' in this song, 'hiding herself in the dark from the world', is a far cry from the omnipotent British legend whose face is one of the most famous of the 20th Century, with its devastating beauty.

I have altered the spelling of the song's title to 'Elizabeth' to pay tribute to the late movie star. The song was rleased in 1975 and although not a Top 40 Hit, it did win a prize at the Tokyo Musical Festival in that year. It certainly highlights the power and range of Normie's voice.

I've chosen Dame Elizabeth Taylor as the subject of the clip, as she loomed large all my life, and was arguably the world's most beautiful woman, as well as making a huge impact on the worlds of film, cosmetics, fashion and in her humanitarian causes, for which she earned a new respect and adoration. Her life was turbulent, as was her career, but the world lost a major talent and icon back in March when she died. Her beauty is immortal; her generosity incalculable, and her impact on the culture immeasurable. I hope you enjoy the tribute.
