Microsoft Excel Tutorial: How to Edit Formulas and Fix Number Text Errors.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, where we discuss all things Excel. I'm Bill Jelen and today, I have two mysteries to solve. Now, onto the two mysteries. The first one involves editing a formula when the cell you need to reference is covered up by the formula itself. This can be frustrating, but fear not, I have two solutions for you. The first one is to click on the cell directly underneath the formula and then use the Up Arrow key to navigate to the cell you need to reference. The second solution involves using the F2 key to switch between Edit mode and Enter mode. In Enter mode, you can use the Right Arrow key to navigate to the cell you need. So, no more struggling to edit formulas when cells are covered up.

The second mystery revolves around the Warning sign that appears when you have a number stored as text. This is a common issue, but it can be tricky to fix when the Warning sign is not visible due to a large selection of data. I have two solutions for this as well. The first one is to use the Ctrl+Period (Ctrl+.) shortcut to move to each corner of the selection and reveal the Warning sign. The second solution is to use the Ctrl+Shift+* shortcut to select all the data, which will also reveal the Warning sign. Its two-for-the-price-of-one-Thursday (sounds like we need a new theme...). Question 1: When editing a long formula, the formula covers up adjacent cells, making it difficult to point to those cells with the mouse. Question 2: When you use Shift Ctrl Right Ctrl Down to select a large range, the Error icon scrolls off the screen. I'll propose solutions to both of these in Episode 859.
