Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Customize Toolbars in Excel.

Welcome to another MrExcel netcast! In this video, we'll be discussing how to customize toolbars in Excel. This is a great way to make your work more efficient and save time while navigating through the program. So let's dive in!

In Excel 2007, we can simply right-click on the quick access toolbar and select "Customize" to add hundreds of icons to the toolbar. In Excel 2003, the process is similar but we would go to "Tools" and then "Customize". From there, we can add icons to the toolbar or even create a brand new one by clicking on the "New" button on the "Toolbars" tab. This will give us a floating toolbar that we can drag buttons to.

Now, let's talk about some buttons that are not on the standard or formatting toolbar, but are extremely useful. The first one is "Select Current Region" which can be found under the "Edit" command. This button is great because it selects the entire contiguous range of data, making it easier to work with large data sets. Another useful button is "Select Visible Cells" which is great for selecting only certain parts of your data, such as customer totals when using subtotals.

Lastly, I want to mention the "Set Print Area" button which can be found under the "File" tab. This button is often buried and not easily accessible, but by adding it to your toolbar, you can save yourself a lot of clicks. It's especially useful when you have temporary tables or data sets that you don't want to include in your print area. By selecting the original data set, then the current region, and finally clicking on "Set Print Area", you can quickly and easily set your print area with just two clicks.
