Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Excel Auto Filter: Virtual Date Filters, Numeric Filters, & More!

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! I'm Bill Jelen and in yesterday's netcast, Jim from Montreal called in with some complaints about the new Auto Filter in Excel 2007. But, to be fair, let me show you some of the great new features that Microsoft has added to the Auto Filter functionality in Excel 2007.

One of my favorite improvements is the new tree view for date filtering. In the past, when you selected the auto filter on a column with dates, you would just get a long list of all the dates. But now, with the tree view, you can easily navigate through different years and months to find the specific range of dates you're looking for. This makes filtering by dates much more efficient and user-friendly.

But that's not all! Excel 2007 also introduces virtual filters, which are a game-changer for text and numeric filtering. With virtual filters, you can quickly filter by specific ranges or categories, such as records from this week, last month, or the top 10 values. These new filters are similar to the ones used in QuickBooks, making it easier for users to adapt to them.

And for those of you who handle large amounts of data, the new numeric filters are a lifesaver. You can now filter by values that are greater than, between, or even the top 10 values. This is a huge improvement from the previous version of Excel and makes the advanced filter feature almost obsolete.

Thanks for tuning in to another netcast from MrExcel! I hope you found these tips helpful and stay tuned for more Excel tips and tricks in our future netcasts. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more Excel content. See you next time!
