By Jerry Askin NewsChannel 9 is taking a closer look at one of the major proposals offered by President Barack Obama when it comes to education. The president cited Georgia as one of the examples that he wants the rest of the country to follow. On Thursday, the president was in Decatur, Ga, near Atlanta to drive that point home.The president wants the federal government to invest in preschoolers. But not everyone is on board with the idea that it's the government's responsibility.Our crew spent the day at Previous Possessions Preschool in Dalton, Georgia. It's a Pre-k center funded by the Georgia Lottery.  The center's director supports President Obama's proposal to help all states pay for preschool programs.Bang for your buck.  Pre-K gets more return. We are affecting the lives of our youngest citizens and we are preparing them for academic success, says Holly Ridley.Obama says high-quality preschool education should be available to every child in the country. Holly Ridley knows first-hand how reaching kids at a young age can affect them later in life. It's vitally important because if they're any special needs, or suspected special needs, you're able to address those early, as well as you prepare the child for the classroom setting, says Ridley.But, while Ridley's in full support of any additional money for Pre-k programs, we asked if the federal government should financially support preschool programs across the country.We need to contain control. What we're doing works for Georgia. It may not work in another state, says Ridley.We asked Georgians how they feel about it.  You think the federal government has any more money? I don't, says Don Wheeler.I think children are our future. I'm a Republican and I have no problem taking care of our children, says William Stargel.Georgia State Senator John Wilkinson supports the President in wanting to use Georgia's Pre-k system as a model for other states, but has a few concerns.When you go from the local level to the state, and then to the federal level,the further you get from the taxpayer, the less efficient the use of taxpayer's money is, says Wilkinson.Depend on us to let you know how the proposal pans out.
