Microsoft Excel Tutorial: How to Organize Your Favorite Podcast Episodes in iTunes.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we have a question from Doug about organizing his favorite episodes. If you have a question for the podcast, don't hesitate to leave us a voicemail or send an email and we'll feature it on a future episode.

Doug's question is about marking favorite episodes in iTunes. He wants to know if there's a way to easily keep track of the tips he wants to revisit and the ones he doesn't need to go back to. Today, we'll take a look at the podcast directory in iTunes and show you how to create a custom playlist for your favorite episodes.

First, let's open up iTunes (version 7.02) and RIGHT CLICK on the heading of the podcast directory. On a Mac, this would be CONTROL CLICK. From here, we can add additional columns to the directory. We'll add the MY RATING column and the GROUPING column. The MY RATING column allows you to assign a rating of 1-5 stars to each episode, while the GROUPING column lets you add keywords to help you remember what the episode was about.

Now, let's use the smart playlist feature to create a dynamic playlist. Go to FILE, NEW SMART PLAYLIST and set the criteria to "podcast is true". Then, add a new rule and select "my rating is" and choose 5 stars. This will create a playlist of all your 5-star episodes. You can also customize the synchronization settings for your iPod to only include episodes from this playlist, saving space and making it easier to find your favorite episodes.

Thanks to Doug for sending in this question! While it may not be directly related to Excel, we all share a love for podcasts and I wanted to share this quick tip for organizing your favorite episodes in iTunes. Don't forget to leave us a voicemail or email with your questions and we'll feature them on a future episode. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
