DAYTON -- It's tough enough for us to slide through these streets in our cars but it can also be tough for kids walking to and from school. I like walking in the snow, so says Kindergartner Allen Handwerker. I walk in the snow every time I get to the bus stop.I usually walk my kids. If it's like below 0 or -1 degrees I just stay home, said Allen's mom Selena. She says the sidewalks are not very friendly to any parent or kid walking to school. No they're not, she said. It's hard to walk the snow with three kids.We went to Ambrose Ct right in front of Ruskin PK-8 School. We watched as the kids left the school parking lot, many have to cross snowy and iced over streets and sidewalks that are snow covered and often times still icy.I don't like it. I think they need to plow it better, said parent Nicole Purdy. The school you can see they shovel the sidewalks on their premises, but I'm talking about people out here. They need to shovel, said Selena Handwerker. It helps out a lot with people trying to catch the bus or people who are walking, especially with kids. Turns out these homeowners aren't legally bound to shoveling the sidewalk in front of their house but these parents sure would appreciate it.I think they need to put salt down to get the ice to melt, said Purdy.Connect with ABC 22/FOX 45 Reporter Wale Aliyu on Facebook and Twitter.
