An extensive coronal hole has rotated facing Earth, between 2-4 May 2018. The clip contains observations made in extreme ultraviolet light by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory between 1-8 May 2018. Coronal holes are areas of open magnetic field that appear darker in extreme ultraviolet light. The area is streaming solar wind, a stream of charged particles released from the upper atmosphere of the Sun that can interact with Earth’s magnetosphere.
