The days of using fossil fuels including petroleum in the USA and the world at large could be numbered. This is after US President Barack Obama unveiled a landmark environmental regulation designed to speed up the United States power industry’s shift from use of fossil fuels as a means to combating climate change. The aim of the revised Clean Power Plan is to cut greenhouse gas emissions from US power stations by nearly a third within 15 years. Already UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner has welcomed the new initiative by the US government.
