Kenya risks an election quagmire in the event of a presidential election petition in 2017 if the process of getting a new Chief Justice is not set in motion soon. Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga further says that the number of days for hearing and determining the petition should be increased from 14 to 30 to give Supreme Court sufficient time to deal with the matter. At the same timeUS Ambassador Robert Godec called for independence and adequate funding of IEBC and the Judiciary to enhance transparency in the electoral process.
