Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Simple Way to Find the End of the Month in Excel | EOMONTH Function Tutorial.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we're going to dive into the topic of finding the end of the month in Excel. Now, I know we've covered this before in previous episodes, but I wanted to revisit it and share a new, simpler method for those who may not have access to certain functions.

In episode 559 and 540, we discussed various ways to find the end of the month, but the original premise was that the person was not allowed to use functions in the Analysis Toolpak. This can be a common restriction in some companies, as the Toolpak may give different results in different spreadsheets. However, in Excel 2007 and later versions, the Analysis Toolpak is now a part of the core Excel with 89 functions available.

If you're using an earlier version of Excel and the Analysis Toolpak is not activated, you may encounter a name error instead of the actual function. In this case, the simplest way to find the end of the month is by using the EOMONTH function. To activate the Analysis Toolpak, go to Tools, then Add-ins, and make sure the Analysis Toolpak is checked. It may not be checked by default, but it's always there. Once activated, you can use any of the 89 functions, including EOMONTH.

To use the EOMONTH function, simply specify a date and how many months in the future you want the end of the month for. For example, if you want to find the end of next month, you would use a 1. If you want the end of this month, use a 0. The function will return the correct date, but it may not be formatted as a date. To fix this, simply use the shortcut Ctrl1 to format the cells and choose a date format. This is much easier than manually calculating the end of the month and worrying about the number of days in February.
