Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Use Icon Set For Only Good or Bad Records in Excel. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this video, I will be showing you a cool trick to apply icon sets only to specific data in your Excel spreadsheet. We've been discussing icon sets all week, and now it's time to take it to the next level. Have you ever wanted to highlight only the bad records in your data? Well, I'm going to show you how to do just that. We will be using the partial icon set feature to only show the red X for failing records, while leaving all other records without any icons. To start, select the entire icon set and go to the CONDITIONAL FORMATTING menu. From there, create a new rule and select "highlight everything GREATER THAN 70". Then, choose the CUSTOM FORMAT option and select "nothing" as the format. This will ensure that no icons are applied to records with a value greater than 70. Next, go to the MANAGE RULES option and select the rule we just created. Under the "STOP IF TRUE" option, check the box. This will prevent any additional rules from being applied to records that meet the criteria we set earlier. The end result? Only the records with a value less than 70 will have the icon applied, making them stand out much better. This is a great way to customize your icon sets and only highlight the extreme values in your data. I hope you found this tip helpful.
