Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Mailbag Answers - Split Cell.

Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel netcast. In this episode, number 802, we will be diving into the mailbag and addressing some of the most popular questions and suggestions from the last 10 episodes, 790 through 799. These episodes generated a lot of mail and we are excited to go through all of them with you.

In episode 790, we discussed how to create a split cell. We received a lot of great ideas from our viewers, including one from Brad who suggested using a bold outline and a diagonal line to split the cell. Another idea came from Mario, who used left and right justification to create a line between two cells. While these methods work, they can be tedious to copy and paste. My personal favorite was from Tony, who used a simple concatenation formula to create a functional, if not as visually appealing, split cell. Another great suggestion came from Stephan, who used a combination of hiding cells and the repeat function to create a clean and professional-looking split cell.

In episodes 795 and 797, we discussed the issue of using the fill handle to extend a series of numbers while maintaining the correct borders. Our viewers came up with some clever solutions, including using the ROW function instead of typing in a 1, and simply changing the number to 2 to avoid the issue altogether. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the best.

In episode 798, I presented a complicated solution for entering dates in a specific format. However, many viewers pointed out that it may be easier to simply teach people to enter the data differently, such as using 7/2008 instead of 07/08. However, in some cases, like with legacy systems, it may be necessary to stick with the original format. As always, we appreciate all the suggestions and feedback from our viewers.

Thank you for tuning in to this episode of the MrExcel netcast. We hope you found these solutions helpful and we look forward to bringing you more tips and tricks in the future.
