Hey YouTubers, Mike Martins here from the Mike Martins Channel.

I'm out for a walk with my son today and I've got a question that has really been bothering me.

For years we've been told that one of the reasons food keeps getting more expensive is the rising price of oil.

Higher fuel prices mean farmers pay more, manufacturers pay more, trucks cost more to operate, transportation costs increase and eventually those costs get passed down to us at the grocery store.

Okay.

But now oil is sitting somewhere around $26–$27 a barrel.

So why does my grocery bill keep going UP?

If transportation is cheaper and energy costs have fallen, shouldn't at least some of those savings eventually make their way down to the consumer?

Because I'm not seeing it.

Food just keeps getting more expensive. I've reached the point where I keep having to pay myself more money simply to maintain what I consider a pretty basic lifestyle.

Something isn't adding up.

I'm not pretending I have the answer. That's actually why I'm making this video. If somebody understands what's happening or has knowledge about the food industry, transportation, commodities or grocery pricing, I'd really like to hear your explanation.

Oil crashed. Food didn't. Why?

Let me know what you think in the comments.
