Today I’m talking about something every hot sauce fan should try — Portuguese piri-piri sauce! I compare a more traditional Portuguese-style piri-piri sauce with Nando’s peri-peri sauce and explain the differences I notice in the ingredients, heat, saltiness and overall flavor. I’ve been eating piri-piri for years, and for me the traditional Portuguese-style sauce has a completely different character. It’s spicy, salty and incredibly good on eggs, chicken, meat and even potato chips. Yes — potato chips! Pour a little piri-piri over plain or ridged chips and give it a try. I also talk about the Portuguese connection to piri-piri and Africa and why this sauce became such an important part of Portuguese cooking. Which do you prefer: traditional Portuguese piri-piri or Nando’s peri-peri? Let me know in the comments!
