It's February 25, 2016 here in Vancouver, and I'm spending a quiet Thursday afternoon outside playing some golf.

Now, before anybody gets the wrong idea—I am NOT a good golfer!

I might have the golf clubs and look like I know what I'm doing, but trust me, I'm terrible. I only started getting into golf recently and I'm still learning every time I come out.

But that's actually why I wanted to make this video.

You don't have to be an amazing golfer to enjoy playing golf, and I've come up with three reasons why I think more people should give it a try.

The first reason is mental discipline.

Golf forces you to concentrate and control your frustration. You can make a terrible shot and immediately want to get angry, but that isn't going to improve your next shot. You have to calm yourself down, concentrate and try again.

If you're somebody who loses your temper easily, golf might actually teach you something about patience.

The second reason is physical.

When I first started playing, I discovered muscles I didn't even realize I was using. Swinging a golf club involves your shoulders, back, legs, hips and core. I've learned that warming up and stretching beforehand makes a huge difference.

You're walking, moving, swinging and spending hours away from the couch.

And reason number three might be my favorite:

You're outdoors.

It's around 1:10 on a Thursday afternoon here in Vancouver. It's peaceful, it's quiet and I'm outside enjoying the day.

Sometimes that's enough.

Not every hobby has to be about becoming the best. You don't need to compete professionally or have the perfect golf swing.

Sometimes it's about getting outside, challenging yourself, learning patience and having some fun.

I'm going to keep playing, and hopefully with enough practice I'll eventually get better!

If you're a golfer, let me know in the comments: What advice would you give somebody who's just starting out?
