Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Save Settings Wizard to move custom lists from one computer to another.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this video, we're going to talk about a useful tool that will make your life a lot easier when it comes to transferring custom lists from one computer to another. As we all know, creating custom lists in Excel can save us a lot of time and effort, but it can be a hassle to transfer them to a different computer. That's where the SAVE MY SETTINGS WIZARD comes in.

To access this tool, simply go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, MICROSOFT OFFICE, MICROSOFT OFFICE TOOLS, and click on the SAVE MY SETTINGS WIZARD. I highly recommend running this wizard once a week to ensure that your settings are always backed up. Once you open the wizard, click NEXT and then select the option to restore settings from another machine. From there, you can browse and select the OPS file that contains all of your registry settings.

The OPS file is about 8K in size and contains everything from your email accounts to your custom lists. Once you click FINISH, the wizard will quickly pull in all of the files and registry settings from the OPS file. It's important to note that you should have no Office programs running while the wizard is restoring your settings. Once it's done, you can open Excel and go to TOOLS, OPTIONS, CUSTOM LISTS to see that all of your custom lists from the other machine have been successfully transferred.

This is a great way to not only backup your settings in case of a crash, but also to easily transfer your favorite Excel settings from one computer to another. So, make sure to use the SAVE MY SETTINGS WIZARD to save yourself time and effort. Thanks for watching this netcast from MrExcel, and we'll see you next time for more Excel tips and tricks!
