This is the Aputure Amaran AL-528W 2 light LED kit. It comes with a lot of nice accessories including a car charger for each light. It’s neatly packed in a shipping box that fits everything quite snugly. The LED panel is roughly 9 inches by 7 and a half inches and has 528 LEDs like in the model number. The Aputure lights come in 3 different types. Wide, spot and dual color. It’s distinguished with the letter W for wide, S for spot and C for dual color temperature. This one is locked at 5600K and comes with a frosted diffusor. It also comes with an orange cover or CTO filter to convert this light to 3200k. The diffusor covers are thin but very rigid.

The light panel is made up of CRI LED 95+ bulbs. On the bottom is a standard tripod mount but there are also holes on both the left and right to attach additional accessories which is a nice feature. The back of the light is elegant and simple with battery mounts, a power switch, display screen and dimmer knob. The Aputure light kit also comes with AC adapters for each panel for added flexibility. The dimmer dial is made of plastic but feels very smooth when adjusting.  Each panel can be run off two NP style batteries which are included. When the Aputure LED light is powered on, there is a display on the back that shows the light level in percentages and also a battery meter.

One of the big features of this light is that the batteries can be charged while the light is in use. The battery indicator flashes in sequence and turns off when fully charged. Each light also comes with its own carrying bag. It has two sections to put the light and accessories in. You can carry it by the handle or attach the included shoulder strap. Inside the front section, there are mesh pouches that can fit both batteries in one side and maybe the light stand clamp or AC adapter in the other. In the main compartment, the LED panel is stored with elastic straps to hold it in place. You can also carry along a light diffusor in the sleeve on the opposite side.

Attaching the light to the light stand is easy by attaching the sturdy metal stud.  The light stand seems like its decent quality and the mount at the top has this tripod screw for added versatility. The wing nuts are plastic but the sections slide up and down smoothly. And amazingly, each light comes with a few replacement LED bulbs which is a nice gesture from Aputure! Overall I have been very happy with these lights. The light output is very bright for the 528W wide beam lights but the 528S spot version is even brighter because the light is concentrated in the center. I don’t mind that these are only 5600k because of how much light is produced plus I can white balance to them.

Personally I would stay away from the 528C because the light output is about half of the 528W. That’s because the 528C only uses half the LEDs unless the color temperature wheel is set to the middle. This is a full kit that includes lots of extras and accessories that make this very useful for photo and video. The main housing of the lights are made of light plastic and probably wouldn’t survive a big fall but I try to be very careful with all my equipment so that shouldn’t be a problem. I love how these can be charged while the lights are in use and they’re fairly light-weight. If you’re looking for a set of affordable LED lights, I think this is a good one to consider.
