Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Master Excel Data Sorting in Word | Sort by Paragraph & Use EOMonth Function.

Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we're going to tackle a common issue that many Excel users face - sorting data in Word. But first, let's start with a quick pivot table to analyze our massive amount of data.

In a previous episode, I mentioned using the EO month function to find the first of the next month. However, this function was only available in the analysis tool pack for Excel 2003. But now, with Excel 2007, it's built in and easily accessible. Simply use the EO month function with a comma and the number of months you want to go out, and you'll have the correct date.

Moving on to our main topic, sorting data in Word. Many people believe that data can only be sorted in Word if it's in a table. But thanks to a tip from Melanie, we now know that you can actually sort by paragraph. Just press [ctrl A] to select all the text, go to the table tab, and click on "sort by paragraph." You can then choose to sort ascending or descending.

But wait, there's more! Melanie also shared a helpful trick for creating the data in Word. Instead of using hard returns, use a text breaking return by going to insert, break, and selecting "text wrapping break." This will ensure that the sort function works correctly. Thank you, Melanie, for this valuable tip!

And lastly, a shoutout to Jamie from the U.K. for reminding us about the EO month function. It's always great to have a function that was previously only available in the analysis tool pack now built into Excel. Just make sure to only use it if you're sharing your workbooks with others who have Excel 2007.
