In my first ever YouTube video a plate this size took just over 7 minutes to turn. Now you can see the 6 minute version from a new angle, almost as close as I see it when I'm turning. Starting with a kiln dried, 34mm thick disc of ash, it only takes a few swift passes with my gouge to contour the base of this piece to a graceful curve, setting the shape of the finished vessel. This plate is destined to travel to one of the local shops I supply with produce, either Objects of Use in Oxford or Faulkner & Wells in Goring, where it will be sold as a functional item for daily use. To see more of my work please check out my other videos, or visit woodworksandcoracles online, on Facebook, on Instagram or on Tumblr. Please be aware that woodturning is an inherently dangerous activity and I have had over 14 years of practice with this craft. YOU are responsible for your own safety, and should not attempt to emulate my techniques unless you feel competent to do so.
