Family members of an Athens man shot dead last week are pleading for an arrest in his murder. Loved ones say Tyler Womack was murdered while doing a good deed.

"We're all broken, we're broken up we're confused," said Tyler's mother, Melanie Smith.

That's how a mother feels when she has to bury her 20-year-old son.

"He never got married, he never had any children, now we have to live with this," said Smith.

The Army veteran and McMinn County High School graduate was murdered last Friday.

Investigators say Tyler Womack was gunned down outside his neighbor's house. His mother says he was there helping his grandmother when he was shot dead.

"He was going to air up her tire on her car, at the neighbor's house," said Smith.

His grandmother heard the gunshot and rushed to find the 20-year-old dead.

The family doesn't know who pulled the trigger, but they believe more than one person is involved, and they want everyone responsible to spend the rest of their lives in prison.

"I just want life to be taken away from them. You don't get to have a family anymore," said Smith.
