Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Pablo sends in a cool tip for using Spearing Formulas. Episode 1099 shows you how.

In today's episode, we have a question from Pablo about using the SUM formula to add up the same cell on multiple sheets. Pablo noticed that when he adds a new sheet, the formula does not automatically expand to include the new sheet. Well, Pablo, you're in luck because I have a great solution for you. Instead of using the traditional SUM formula, Pablo created a couple of interesting worksheets - one called "first" and one called "last". By changing the fill color and removing the gridlines on these sheets, Pablo was able to create a workaround for his problem.

Now, instead of using the SUM formula with specific sheet names, Pablo can simply use the colon symbol followed by "first" and "last" and then the cell reference. This allows the formula to automatically expand when new sheets are added between "first" and "last". It's a simple yet effective solution that can save you time and hassle when working with large amounts of data.
