Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Working with Long Formulas in Excel that Expand beyond the Formula Bar. Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, where we discuss all things Excel. Today, we're diving into one of the new features in Excel 2007 - the expanded FormulaBar. As many of you may know, working with long formulas in Excel 2003 could be quite frustrating. When selecting a formula in a cell, the FormulaBar would automatically extend and cover the cell, making it impossible to see both the formula and the cell value at the same time. But fear not, because Excel 2007 has completely fixed this issue. Let's take a look at how the expanded FormulaBar works. In Excel 2007, when selecting a long formula in a cell, the FormulaBar will only show one line at a time. However, by clicking on the "Expand Formula Bar" button or using the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+U, the FormulaBar will expand and move the grid down, allowing you to see both the formula and the cell value simultaneously. This simple fix eliminates the frustration of not being able to see the entire formula and makes working with long formulas a breeze. This issue has been plaguing Excel users since the ‘97 version, but with the expanded FormulaBar in Excel 2007, it's a thing of the past. No more constantly scrolling up and down to see the formula and the cell value. This feature may seem small, but it's definitely a game-changer for those who work with long formulas on a regular basis. So if you're still using Excel 2003, it may be time to upgrade and take advantage of this and many other new features in Excel 2007. Thanks for tuning in to today's netcast from MrExcel.
