Phillip Sear plays a most attractive miniature from 1939 by the 1910 Prix de Rome winner Noël Gallon (1891–1966) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The French composer Noël Gallon (1891-1966) studied at the Paris Conservatoire, and, from 1920, taught solfège and counterpoint there. His very impressive list of students there includes Dutilleux, Messiaen and Duruflé. As a composer, although he wrote a few large scale works early in his career, he is best known for chamber music and educational works. This beautiful piece, with its very subtle harmonies, was dedicated to the young Arlette Voltchikis (1927—ca.2008), who later, as Arlette Mendels-Voltchikis edited popular anthologies of piano music.
