#1 from 'Walt Disney's The Living Desert - Three Themes' - suite for piano, arranged by E. Charles Eggert.

Here is a piece by the American Oscar-winning composer and 'Disney Legend', Paul J. Smith (1906-85), from his score for the Disney feature-length 1953 documentary 'The Living Desert. Smith had previously collaborated on many cartoons, and the cartoonish music he wrote to accompany footage of animal movements was quite controversial at the time (eg, the piece 'Kangaroo Rat', also included in this suite). The Canadian arranger of this suite, (Eli) Charles Eggert (1882-1968), was a Hollywood composer and arranger. One of his specialist activities was to produce 'conductor scores' - which were a version of the full score put onto four staves used for live recordings of soundtracks, where the conductor would watch film footage while conducting an orchestra to fit the action. For this purpose, page turns had to be kept to a minimum. Erich Korngold was one of the composer/conductors Eggert provided this service for. Eggert was a remarkable musician in his own right - having memorized the complete works of Chopin by age 16. You can read more about him here: http://bit.ly/1n7mYjI
