Sudan's finance minister and his investment counterpart have been summoned to Parliament amid growing protests over an increase in bread prices. The parliamentary economics committee is probing the cause of the sharp hike in the cost of basic commodities. The price of bread has more than doubled after a jump in the cost of flour due to a shortage of wheat. The government has stopped importing wheat to allow private companies to ship in the grain. MPs are demanding a review of the recently introduced measures. But the government has defended its decision, based on the 2018 budget.
