A fabulous Bedford 350D Special Purpose Search and Rescue vehicle with just 28,870 miles.
    
EQUIPMENT
Removable search office pod containing the following; two lockable sectioned compartments, full AC power supply, 14 double power sockets, built in sink with water pump, ample storage, shelving, two white boards, fire blankets, full lighting, secured seating, two Carver Trumatic gas heaters, two ring gas cooker, 18.6ft electrically operated telescopic shaft with down lights and red flashing beacon, two blue flashing beacons, (disconnected).  3.5 tonne gross weight model, twin rear wheels, wrap round front flashers, recessed headlamps, epoxy-powder coated bumpers, two grille mounted blue flashing lights, (disconnected), deep box-section chassis, finger-flick switches, dual passenger seat, long parcel shelf, twin-spoke steering wheel, ashtray mounted in engine cover, face level vents, two speed heater.
 
EXTERIOR
A fascinating Special Purpose Vehicle recently retired from service finished in police white with reflective police livery.  Remarkably preserved with both the cab and chassis structurally sound and corrosion free.  Minor markings to the exterior do nothing to detract from the clean sound condition.  Removable pod is water tight and operational.   

INTERIOR
Bostrom-designed seating upholstered in Donegal tweed with matching door trims show some wear but generally clean and original.  Small tear in the cab roof lining.  Rubber floor covering tidy and present.  All cockpit controls function correctly but blue flashing lights and sirens have been disconnected.  Pod ancillaries not safety tested but operational.  A fully working 'office' environment used to coordinate search and rescue missions now ready for an imaginative new owner!  

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The GM 2.3 litre four cylinder overhead-camshaft diesel engine produces 61bhp at 4000rpm and offers great pulling power.  By modern standards it is slow and noisy so long distance journeys need to be planned in advance!    The reliable ZF four-speed transmission has a lower ratio second gear to assist acceleration and is perfect in operation. 
  
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES.
6-stud single piece wheels painted white.  Twin rear wheels on a fully floating, hypoid drive axle.  Quality tyres with excellent tread.  Vacuum servo assisted brakes with independent circuits for front and rear brakes offer adequate stopping power. 

HISTORY FILE
Originally ordered by the Bedfordshire Fire Service for field operations the chassis and cab was entrusted by the Ray Smith Group to have a Special Purpose removable pod conversion at vast expense.  Ray Smith instruction stickers, metal chassis plate and mud flaps still intact.  Remaining with the Fire Service for 19 years with occasional use it was then purchased by the Midshires Search & Rescue Organisation who assist the Police Force in searches for missing persons.  Used as the base to co-ordinate search missions it provided a valuable asset in finding vulnerable lost people.  

Now ready for a new chapter in whichever way the next owner feels appropriate!
