Phillip Sear plays a fleeting prelude by the British composer Maurice Besly (1888-1945). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #4 from 6 Preludes, Op.27 (1928) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The British composer Maurice Besly (1888-1945) had an incredibly varied career - as composer, schoolteacher, organist, WW1 soldier, and latterly solicitor and director of the Performing Rights Society. The set of preludes from which this piece comes was published in 1928, but the individual pieces were written at various times in 1926-7, and in different locations. This one was written in Nenagh, in County Tipperary, Ireland in June 1927. The set is dedicated to Laurence Godfrey-Smith (1884-1973), a Fijiian-born, Australian concert pianist (and Leschetizky pupil) who taught in Sydney. Besly himself visited Australia in 1926.
