Originally, I had planned to post selections from the grand finale to Act One from "Cellini" but this project will have to wait a bit, due to various reasons. For now, I decided to post several smaller items from Act Two, such as the present prayer for Teresa and Ascanio who are asking God to save Cellini from harm. This is set over a background of a procession of monks singing a hymn, while passing through the street outside (the stage directions show that each couplet draws the chorus nearer, until they begin passing halfway through the prayer and slowly disappearing from view). This situation is set into a wonderful short piece that contrasts the monks sustained sighs with the protagonists lyrical, ornamented phrases. A most superb prayer of great theatrical effect. Hope you'll enjoy :)!
