A5068285 M.J. is a rotund, luxuriously furry 9-year-old tricolor (white, black, tan) neutered male Chihuahua and Corgi mix whose owner surrendered him to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on May 18th without giving a reason. Weighing 18 lbs (and needing to lose a good deal of that), M.J. is at first quite guarded and unresponsive when you approach him—he is obviously overwhelmed by the predicament he finds himself in and missing his home. With us, he came out of his kennel with no issues, but looked pretty sad and didn’t show much trust—until we let him stay out in the play area with after his video and photo and let him hang out, causing him to perk right up. He walks fine on leash (and likes walking!), takes treats gently (and as often as he can!), bonds with some time, has a low energy with spurts of get-up-and-go, is okay with dogs getting near him, and enjoys being someone’s baby--so we know MJ can be loving and responsive with just a little patience and care  We did note that he has a swollen area under his left eye and some sensitivity to being touched on his bum, near his tail. We think M.J. will be a great and rewarding pet for an individual or family with older kids who likes an older dog with personality and will enjoy getting him back into shape, healthy and loved, in his own forever home.
