Microsoft Excel Tutorial:  Master Excel Data Entry: Control Cell Movement after ENTER.

Welcome back to MrExcel netcast for another episode of Where Is It Wednesday. In this video, we will be discussing a useful feature in Excel that many users have been missing since the transition from Excel 2003 to 2007. It's called "Move cell pointer direction after ENTER" and it allows you to control where the cell pointer moves after pressing the ENTER key.

In the past, this feature could be found under Tools, Options, on the Edit tab. However, in Excel 2007, it seems to have disappeared. But don't worry, there is still a way to control the cell pointer movement. If you only need to keep the cell pointer in the current cell, simply hold down the Ctrl key while pressing ENTER. This will prevent the cell pointer from moving and is a handy trick for entering the same value or formula in multiple cells.

But what if you want to change the direction of the cell pointer movement? Well, in Excel 2007, you can find this feature under the Office button, then Excel Options, and finally under the Advanced tab. Here, you will see the option to "After pressing Enter, move selection" with a drop-down menu to choose the direction. You can choose to move to the right, down-right, or upper-left. And if you don't want the cell pointer to move at all, simply uncheck the box.

This feature can greatly speed up data entry, especially when entering data across multiple cells. And to make it even more efficient, you can pre-select the cells and the cell pointer will automatically jump back to the first cell after entering data in the last cell.
