OVER-THE-RHINE, Ohio (WKRC) - A student from UC's College-Conservatory of Music parked her car to eat lunch nearly two weeks ago and when she returned, her violin was missing. Kayla Waldron has been playing the violin since she was 3 years old. Someone removed the Angelo Stroumo violin along with the army green case, her bow and pickup from her trunk on Oct. 6. She cried when she got home and realized someone had broken into her car. "I knew that I didn't want to ever stop playing the violin," Waldron said. Waldron was parked at the corner of Central Parkway and Vine Street. when the violin was stolen. "My heart sank first and I was panicked, to be honest. It kind of feels like losing a child," Waldron said. Waldron worked for two years to earn the money to buy the violin. "For the last five years, I've had that instrument. I purchased it with my own money and worked hard to buy it and then very hard after I bought it to play it well," said Waldron. Kayla, her family and police have been trying to find the instrument to no avail. They've called pawn shops and other stores that might have one. "We've spoken to a man who plays guitar around this area a lot who said that another gentleman tried to sell it to him on the day that it was stolen for $20," Waldron said. She's willing to buy the violin back from whomever has it. "I really just want my violin back. It would be so nice to get it back," Waldron said. "If it gets turned in to the police, that would be amazing. Just turn it in. We're not really looking to punish anyone severely." Anyone with information about the violin or its whereabouts can call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
