Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Display Decimal Numbers as Fractions.

Welcome back to the MrExcel podcast, where we explore all the hidden features and tricks of Excel. In today's episode, we're going to talk about a feature that I never knew existed - displaying numbers as fractions in Excel. Yes, you heard that right, you can take numbers that are displayed as decimals and convert them into fractions with just a few clicks.

To do this, simply go to Format Cells on the Number tab and select the Fraction category. From there, you can choose to display the numbers in fractions up to 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digits, halves, quarters, 8’s, 16’s, 10’s, or 100’s. This is particularly useful for industries that deal with fractions, such as stock trading or tread wear measurements.

But here's the cool part - you can even customize the fraction format to your specific needs. For example, if you know that your numbers are in 32’s, you can go to the Custom Number tab and change the format to display them in 32’s. This will convert all the numbers in your data set to fractions in 32’s, making it easier for you to work with.
