Microsoft Excel Tutorial: How to Remove Leading Spaces and Keep Interior Spaces Intact.

Welcome back to the MrExcel Podcast! I'm Bill Jelen and I'm currently on my way home from the Microsoft MVP's Summit in Seattle. It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by 32 Excel experts and to have the opportunity to catch up with the folks at Microsoft who are already working on Office 14, set to be released in 2009 or 2010. It's clear that Excel is far from finished and there are many exciting updates and improvements in the works.

In this episode, we'll be addressing a question from George about dealing with leading and interior spaces in Excel. George had used the "edit replace" function to get rid of the leading spaces in his data, but it also removed the interior spaces which he wanted to keep. My solution to this is to insert a new column and use the "trim" function to remove the leading spaces while leaving the interior spaces intact. This function is also useful for reducing multiple interior spaces down to one.

But that's not all! While I was at the MVP Summit, I asked various experts to share their favorite Excel tips in a two-minute segment. So for the next ten episodes, we'll have guest podcasters sharing their top tips with you. These guests include well-known bloggers like Dick Kusleika from Daily Dose of Excel and authors like John Walkenbach from the Bottomless Pit. Make sure to tune in over the next few weeks to learn from these Excel gurus.
