Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Handle mid-month Change in Commission Rates in Excel.
Welcome to another MrExcel netcast! I'm Bill Jelen and today I have a special invitation for all of you Excel enthusiasts out there. Instead of a tip, I want to challenge you to put your Excel skills to the test and join our challenge of the month. We usually have about six challenges a year where we invite our viewers to send in their solutions to an Excel problem. And our next challenge is due on Monday, April 16th.

This challenge is a fun one that was posed to me during one of my Power Excel seminars. The task is to calculate a sales commission where the first two thousand units sold in a calendar year are paid at a rate of $1.50 per unit, but after that, the rate drops to $1.25 per unit. The catch is that the two thousand mark never falls exactly at the end of a month, so there's always one month where you need to figure out how many units are paid at each rate. Can you design a formula to handle this challenge?

You can download the zipped Excel file with the challenge or build your own solution and send it in for a chance to win some great books.
