#3 from Bagatellen, Op.81

Phillip Sear plays an evocation of May's delights from 1874 by the German composer Gustav Merkel (1827–1885).
------------------------------------------------------------------
Merkel studied piano with Schumann's father-in-law, Friedrich Wieck, but was primarily known as an organist, and much of his music is for the organ. He spent most of his career in Dresden, where, though a Lutheran, he became organist at the Catholic Hofkirche. Most of Merkel's music reminds me of the work of Neils Gade—both composers being greatly influenced by Schumann and Mendelssohn.
