For three days between Christmas and New Year 2016, we were treated to the sights and sounds of an ex.LMS Black 5 pounding its way up what is probably the most beautiful railway line in Britain .... the line from Fort William to Mallaig on the wild and wonderful west coast of Scotland. In this first part of my video, we see the Black 5, number 45407 "The Lancashire Fusilier" starting off from Fort William and making its way along the least hilly part of the line to Glenfinnan. The famous viaduct at Glenfinnan has recently increased its fame (disappointingly) through featuring in the Harry Potter films. Nevertheless, these films have brought much money into the area as coach loads of visitors come to view the viaduct, particularly when a steam train is due to cross. My closing view is taken from above the viaduct viewing area and features the wonderfully photogenic Loch Shiel with the Glenfinnan Monument in the foreground.
