For three days between Christmas and New Year 2016, we were treated to the sights and sounds of an ex.LMS Black 5 pounding its way up what is probably the most beautiful railway line in Britain .... the line from Fort William to Mallaig on the wild and wonderful west coast of Scotland.
In this second part of my video, we see the Black 5, number 45407 "The Lancashire Fusilier" crossing the famous viaduct at Glenfinnan which has recently increased its fame (disappointingly) through featuring in the Harry Potter films. Nevertheless, these films have brought much money into the area as coach loads of visitors come to view the viaduct, particularly when a steam train is due to cross. After Glenfinnan, the train continues to steadily climb and, thanks to the Black 5 failing on the steep bank near Beasdale and having to drop back and try again, I managed to get a rather grabbed sequence on Arisaig station where the train stops briefly to collect the token enabling them to proceed along the final section to Mallaig. As a closing shot, I have included a final look at the Black 5 in the village of Morar, heading back to Fort William tender first .... the last chance of a look at the train before the winter sun falls below the horizon !
PS. Please excuse me for repeating the Glenfinnan sequences, already shown in Part 1. I thought they were of sufficient importance to viewers !
