CINCINNATI (WKRC) -- Local hardware stores are running out of salt to sell to homeowners. Their supply is low because they are having trouble getting it from their suppliers. They are reaching out to all parts of the country to try to re-supply their shops and empty warehouses. The winter started out like gangbusters. Obviously. The problem is we built up this inventory all summer long to sell and it was gone by mid January. Now they just can t make enough material to supply everybody because the whole country's got snow.A lot of salt is transported by barge and the barges are having trouble getting through ice at some of the locks.
